Q: I've never really heard of Prader-Willi Syndrome. Is it that rare? Bobbi - Toledo.
A: Prader-Willi Syndrome is not amongst the other syndromes that readily roll off of the tongue. It's somewhat rare, but not as rare as one might think. It effects approximately 27,000 people in the United States alone. Down's Syndrome effects approximately 340,000. PWS is, however, picking up in the frequency of media coverage. The syndrome has been portrayed in programs such as CSI and Law & Order. It has also had special attention made in news programs. Most recently, ABC's Good Morning America had a segment about Kate Kane, an adult dealing with PWS. ABC News also had a full story that aired in February, 2008. Click here for the link!
